The Hunter Valley is home to some of the best restaurants in the country. All cuisines are comprehensively covered so no matter what you’re craving (Mexican, French, Italian, Japanese, Modern Australian) you will be spoiled for choice.
With a reputation as one of the best culinary destinations in Australia, internationally renowned chefs are flocking to the Hunter creating menus that leave the tastebuds tingling.
There are gastronomic delights to be found around every corner - from 10 course private dining degustation menus to pub-style dinning. Many of the restaurants produce organic, homemade food and grow their produce on site.
Muse, Rock Restaurant, Bistro Molines, Emersons at Pokolbin, Margan and Roberts Restaurant have all been awarded coverted chef’s hats in the fine dining arena. For those looking for a more casual affair, Firestick Cafe, Goldfish, Ooishi, Brocken Back Bar or Hariagan’s Irish Pub are all good options.
Many of the restaurants offer two or three course menus during the weekend and, as is to be expected, the wine lists are impeccable. Most restaurants have very knowledgeable wine waiters or sommeliers who can recommend a good Hunter Valley drop to match and compliment your meal.
There are lots of restaurants that enjoy unrivalled views of the valley and others where you are practically sitting amongst the vines. In summer you can dine alfresco or in winter, you can cosy up under blankets near a roaring fireplace.
Remember to leave room for desert or a cheese plate if you can – the Hunter has some of the tastiest cheese around. And of course your meal wouldn’t be complete until you’ve sample a sweet desert wine. It’s a perfect match for post-dinner bickies and cheese! Bon Appetite!
