There is no shortage of entertainment options in the Hunter Valley. Whether you want to see the latest new release film, a local theatre performance or an international headline act, you will find something to suit you.
Almost every weekend there is a well-recognised performer or band drawing a big crowd at one of the spectacular outdoor amphitheatres amongst the vines. International artists including Lionel Ritchie, Sting, Neil Diamond and Chris Isaak have all played in the Hunter Valley.
The outdoor setting amongst the vines and under the stars makes for a truly unforgettable concert experience. The main performance venues are Hope Estate, Bimbadgen, Tempus Two and Whyndam Estate. Tickets usually sell out well in advance and it’s a good idea to check what you can and cannot take into the concert.
Booking a transfer to and from the venue is also advisable as taxis and hire cars are in high demand and often booked out. If the weather is looking bleak, be sure to take some wet weather gear as the concerts usually go ahead rain, hail or shine.
If you are interested in something on a smaller scale, the Cessnock Community Performing Arts Centre is the Hunter Valley’s main indoor theatre hosting a range of musicals, operas, concerts, dance performances, film screenings and regional theatrical events. Upcoming events can be viewed on the centre’s website or in local ‘What’s On’ publications.
There are also a number of cinema complexes in the Hunter Valley screening the latest feature films.
Cessnock,
Maitland and
Singleton all have cinemas and Kurri Kurri is home to one of the state’s few remaining ‘Drive In’ cinemas – all you need for a good night out is your vehicle and an FM car radio.
