Hunter Valley cheese tasting

Hunter Valley hotels

Cheese and wine are the perfect pair so it’s not surprising that the Hunter Valley has a great range of options when it comes to cheese. There are a number of specialty stores offering local, hand made cheeses as well as imports from around the world. Most of the cheese shops do tastings and take away cheese plates which are ideal to enjoy with a chilled glass of Semillon after a big day of wine tasting!

Some of the cheese shops to keep an eye (or a nose) out for include The Smelly Cheese Shop, Binnorie Dairy and the Hunter Valley Cheese Company.

Just like there’s a wine for every palate, it seems there is also a cheese to suit any taste! You can sample blue mould, buffalo milk, fetta, fresh curd, semi hard, stretched curd, washed rind, surface ripened, brie, labna, mascarpone, quark, valencay, goats cheese, fromage frais and cheddar.

If you can stand the smell, you can spend ages in the cheese cool rooms marvelling at the massive wheels of cheese from places like France (Roquefort), Switzerland (Gruyere), Holland (Gouda) and England (Red Leicester).

There are plenty of crackers, olives, oils and homemade condiments available which make it easy to throw together a picnic lunch if you want a break from the Hunter Valley restaurant scene.
